Melbourne Cloud Native Security event

Yesterday, I had a great time attending the Melbourne Cloud Native Security event! It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with some IT professionals and exchange ideas.

Before the event started, I had some great conversations with various people, including a Principal Consultant with over 15 years of experience in cloud platforms. During the chat, I asked him two questions. First, I asked, "What do you think are the chances for graduate students to get a job? Is it harder or easier than before?" He answered that it’s harder now than it was a couple of years ago, especially after Covid-19 slowed everything down. However, he also mentioned that there’s still a chance for entry-level positions if candidates can demonstrate their skills through projects and certifications.

The second question I asked was, "Do you think internships are important for students?" He explained that internships provide two things: experience and connections. He said that making good connections during internships might help students find a job, as these contacts could guide them or even recommend them for roles.

One of the talks was given by a speaker who discussed “CVEs and becoming a CNA,” explaining how the process of reporting and fixing security problems works. It was fascinating to learn how CNAs (CVE Numbering Authorities) help make software safer by managing these issues.
